If you are flying in from overseas, we recommend a first night stop in the countryside a short drive from the airport so that you can recover from jetlag.
Starting from Glasgow, drive along Loch Lomond and further north through the splendid scenery of Argyll.

From the busy port of Oban, you can easily take a day trip to the Isle of Mull - where there's much to see and do from castles to beaches, and its brightly painted town of Tobermory. Take a short ferry ride to the sacred isle of Iona to see the abbey, or go on a boat trip to see famous Fingal's Cave.

Journey along the famous Road to the Isles on the trail of Bonnie Prince Charlie
with perhaps a boat trip across to the Small Isles such as Eigg or Rum.

Whether you take the ferry or the bridge over to Skye, the island is a must for most visitors.
With its majestic mountains, castles and gardens, plus its very own distillery, you could easily spend several days here.

From here, it's back to the mainland and unmissable Eilean Donan Castle,
then eastwards via the mountains of Kintail to Loch Ness or via scenic Wester Ross to the capital of the Highlands.

The Inverness area is a great base for many different sights and activities - including a boat trip to see dolphins or spot Nessie, and perhaps a night in a haunted castle near Loch Ness. Maybe you'd like to see where Madonna was married, take in a distillery or two, or follow the Pictish Trail.
As you say goodbye to the mountains of the Highlands, you can look forward
to the lovely trees and rivers of Perthshire.

And then it will be time for the shops, galleries and architectural delights of Edinburgh before you return home. You'll be wishing you could have stayed longer!
Those of you with 10-15 days to spend will have a lot more opportunity to savour all that Scotland has to offer.
