Castle and Gardens Grand Tour - 13 Nights

From £1,525

The romantic, historic and picturesque castles of Scotland are famous throughout the world, and it's little wonder that many of them are used as film locations.  This grand holiday tour gives you the opportunity to combine visits to both castles and their superb gardens as well as other exotic and interesting gardens throughout Scotland.  Many castles stand in unrivalled, breathtaking positions in the Scottish landscape and some have the most wonderful gardens.

Your self-drive tour starts by staying 2 nights in beautiful Perthshire where you are spoilt for choice by the number of local castles and gardens to visit.  Discover the castle where the ancient Kings of Scotland were crowned (Scone Palace) or visit Drummond Castle Gardens where 'Rob Roy' was filmed or Doune Castle which was used in one of Monty Python's films.  Blair Castle has an interesting armoury and still has the only private army in Scotland.  After Perthshire drive to 'Royal Deeside' near Banchory for 2 nights and see why this area was so well loved by Queen Victoria and still enjoyed by the present Royal Family.  Visit Balmoral Castle, the summer residence of the Royal Family and enjoy some of the other delightful local castles and gardens in this area, such as Crathes Castle.  Then continue on your tour as you travel to the Inverness area where you have the opportunity to visit Cawdor Castle made famous by Shakespeare and which has wonderful gardens and grounds, or Brodie Castle passing an ancient Pictish stone on the driveway to the castle.  You may like to drive to nearby Loch Ness and visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle on the shore.  You may wish to drive further north to visit stunning Dunrobin Castle near Golspie which looks more like a fairytale French chateau with lovely formal gardens.  Travel to the scenic North West coast of Scotland to stay for 2 nights and enjoy surprisingly exotic gardens before journeying south towards Fort William via a castle that is in one of the most picturesque settings in Scotland on a tiny island with a stone bridge over to it.  Stay 3 nights near Fort William and Oban where you have an opportunity to visit many of the lovely local gardens.  Finish your tour with 2 nights in Edinburgh where you can see famous Edinburgh Castle and enjoy the Botanical Gardens in the city.
